Interview with the founder of Greeningline

Greeningline is a brand whose philosophy is to create sustainable-quality-garments with plant-based dyes. The garments are made from natural materials that save water, energy and are biodegradable. We have met the founder, Celia Ingesson, to hear more about the brand.

Hi Celia! From what needs was Greeningline created?

- Most materials in our clothes are made with toxic chemicals and plastics, even if you buy organic, recycled or more sustainable. I have dedicated my knowledge as a textile expert to creating the most sustainable products possible with sustainable materials, non-toxic colors and small-scale production. The clothes are delivered in fabric or bioplastic bags with labels in cotton and recycled paper.

What can we expect from your brand?

- A collection of lounge, resort and yoga wear created for the way we live today, rather than being divided into collections or seasons. Our garments are created with design, function and material choices that are made from the best and for the best of nature, (and our health).

You work with less-specific-sizing, what does that mean?

- Fewer sizes are part of Greeningline's sustainability strategy, but also a call to be less size-fixed. This allows us to reduce unnecessary production that costs the environment.

What kind of material do you work with?

- Greeningline is produced in tencel, linen, bamboo, silk and organic cotton. All materials are chosen to be as sustainable, (from an environmental point of view), as possible. However, it is Greeningline's coloring that makes the product authentic sustainable in all aspects.

Is it just as good to workout  in natural materials as in synthetic ones?

- I would argue it’s much better! Today there are many sustainable alternatives to synthetics, such as tencel, bamboo, organic cotton and bionylons which are moisture repellent, breathable, kind to the skin and much better qualities for working out then petroleum based materials = polyester, nylon, polyamide and nylon. Natural materials are antibacterial, can be aired and washed at low temperatures, which saves both the environment and the garment itself.

What does natural coloring mean?

- One of the most polluting processes in the clothing industry is the color/ dyeing process, which requires large amounts of energy, water and chemicals, (often hazardous). In order to create the most environmentally friendly garments possible, Greeningline has chosen to work with plant dyes, mainly from bark and leaves that have already fallen to the ground, or food waste. The method is similar to chemical dyeing, where we have replaced chemicals with pigments from nature.
